Perry reviews are dedicated to the ciders that are made with 100% pears.
The Tieton Sparkling Perry is a crisp and dry perry (even though it was marked semi-sweet on the bottle and tricked our brains at first). The perry is made using traditional perry pears grown in Tieton’s Washington orchards.
Just like cider apples, there are a variety of perry pears with most being slightly acidic with a small amount of tannins. However, the perry tannis tend to be a bit softer than what is found in cider apples. Perry pears also often have higher levels of sugar than cider apples, which makes them a bit less tart than traditional ciders.
A golden color with sparkling bubbles. The pear aromas were very light on the nose. The perry has very tart and acidic pear flavors. And while flavors of pear were present, they were very light (like the nose) and similar to eating crisp pears. The tannins were noticeable on the finish leaving a slight drying sensation on the pallet.
Wine Lovers — Why Drink It?
Champagne drinkers will enjoy this perry. Its crisp and dry flavors are similar to the mineral, bone-dry flavors traditionally found in champagnes. Like a champagne, this perry was fermented and naturally carbonated in the bottle. This perry is similar to a brut champagne as it has a low sweetness level.
