During our visit to Milwaukee for the Milwaukee Cider Fest we happened to run across this Seattle Cider Citrus in Whole Foods.

We are a big fan of Seattle Cider – we love the Gin Botanical, our friends will tell you we bring it to every party – so we were excited to try their Citrus cider.

The dry citrus cider is a blend of 5 common apples – Granny Smith, Fuji, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious and Gala – with grapefruit, lemon and orange peel flavors. Since common (rather than heirloom or cider) apples were used the strong flavors of grapefruit and lemon muted the apple. While we enjoyed this cider on a cool autumn night, its crisp, clean flavor would make it a wonderful summer sipper.

Tasting Notes

Gold foamy head which dissipates into slight bubbles. Initially the cider has a pineapple nose but as it warms up the apple notes become more prevalent. The first sip of this dry cider initially results in citrus flavors, especially the grapefruit, are stronger than the apple, but it too comes through as the cider warms a bit. The cider delivers a nice acidity with a clean and crisp finish.

Wine Lovers — Why Drink It?

If you love Marlborough (New Zealand) Sauvignon Blanc you will love this cider. This style of Sauvignon Blanc is known for citrus and herbaceous notes with bright acidity and slight sweetness; all of which a very prominent in the Citrus cider.

Score: 7.5/10 – Very Good
