When I was in L.A. I had an opportunity to try Ace Pineapple Cider on draft at Yard House. Ace Pineapple Cider is available in Chicago in 6 packs and it had been on my “to try” list for a while. But often I shy away from sweet fruit ciders. In several ciders I’ve found that the fruit completely overpowers the apple, however I was pleasantly surprised by Ace’s Pineapple Cider. The cider is produced by adding pineapple juice to the fermented apple base. The pineapple flavor and aromas are there but the sweetness is not. It is similar to nibbling on the core of a fresh-cut pineapple. You get the entire tropical pineapple flavor without the over-the-top sweetness. Because of that this cider is a good sipper and something that would be great during a hot summer day.

Tasting Notes

Light golden color with very little head but plenty of bubbles. The aromas are pineapple with slight hints of apple. Flavors are unmistakably pineapple with some apple especially at the finish. The tartness of the pineapple provides the cider with slight acidity which stays on the palate.

Wine Lovers — Why Drink It?

Ace Pineapple Cider reminds me of a California Sauvignon blanc, where the grapes have been allowed to ripen and are barrel-fermented to produce slightly peachy and tropical flavors.
